From Student to Teaching Assistant – Tianna’s Journey

From the moment Tianna White joined the JGW+ programme at Itec Merthyr, her positivity and enthusiasm stood out.
Over the two months of working together, her tutor saw a learner who was not only committed to her own development but eager to support others.

Tianna quickly became the centre’s first learner representative, offering help to classmates, especially those new to the programme, and contributing to a welcoming and supportive classroom environment.

Her confidence grew every day, and this momentum accelerated even further once she started her placement.

Tianna has excelled in her role, impressing her placement employer so much that they are keen to keep her for as long as possible.

“After two weeks Tianna is absolutely incredible and extremely essential to the team,” said Employability Officer Lucy Woodrow.
Reflecting on her journey, Tianna shared, “Since starting my journey with Itec my confidence has improved loads with the help, support and encouragement of the tutors. I’m now in placement doing what I have always dreamed of.”

Her progression from learner to teaching assistant shows how dedication and the right support can help someone become the best version of themselves.
