What is an Apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships combine practical training in a job with study.
As an apprentice you will:
- Be an employee earning a wage and getting holiday pay
- Work alongside experienced staff
- Gain job-specific skills
- Get time for training and study related to your role (at least 20% of your normal working hours).
How long is an apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships can take from 8 months to 6 years to complete, depending on the type and level of the apprenticeship.
With Itec, depending on the sector and job role, an apprenticeship generally takes 12 to 18 months to complete.
In England, this does not include the End Point Assessment.
How is an apprenticeship funded?
In Wales, the Welsh Government cover most of the cost of training while the employer pays the apprentice’s wage.
In England, apprenticeships are funded through the Apprenticeship Levy for levy-paying employers, or co-funded for non-levy employers (subject to eligibility).
Am I eligible for an apprenticeship?
In Wales and England, apprenticeships are available to anyone 16 and over and not in full-time education.
