From Learner to Beauty Professional: Romie Lewis’ Journey with JGW+ and Itec

Romie Lewis has made remarkable progress since joining the JGW+ programme with Itec, building her confidence, skills, and industry experience as she works toward a career in beauty. From the very beginning, Romie embraced every opportunity available to her, completing the City & Guilds Award in Customer Service QCF – Level 1 and the City & Guilds Level 1 Introductory Award in Employability Skills. She is now progressing through her Level 1 Beauty qualification, further strengthening her foundation within the sector.

A turning point in Romie’s journey has been her placement at The Rose Retreat Spa in Merthyr, where she has been able to apply her learning in a real professional environment. The support she received from Itec during this time made a significant difference. Reflecting on her experience, Romie shared:

“While at placement, Itec has offered plenty of guidance and support, such as making sure I had a professional uniform, helping me get a Customer Service qualification as well as a Level 1 Beauty qualification. They’ve also supported me by constantly checking in and giving advice whenever I needed it.”

Her time at the spa not only strengthened her practical skills but also helped her develop confidence, professionalism, and a genuine passion for the industry. Romie’s mentor at the spa, James Jones, praised her commitment and progression:

Alongside her placement, Romie has worked hard to complete an impressive range of specialist training that supports her growing skill set: Crystal Ritual, Raindrop Ritual, Indian Head Massage, Jade Facial with Gaia Online Training and Caudalie Facial Training, Hot Stones Massage, Swedish Massage with Beauty Guild Training.

Romie’s story highlights how the right combination of structured training, personalised support, and high quality work experience can create life changing opportunities. Her dedication and positive attitude shine through in everything she does, making her an inspiring example of what young people can achieve with encouragement and the space to grow.
