A Journey of Growth and Resilience: Lana Meeke’s Path Through Skills Development

Lana Meeke started her journey on the Engagement strand of the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme feeling unsure about her future career path and knowing that a traditional college environment was not suitable for her due to anxiety. However, since joining the Itec Aberdare, Lana has settled into the centre extremely well and has shown consistent commitment to her learning and personal development.

She has built positive relationships with both peers and staff, made new friends, and has naturally taken on a peer mentor role by offering encouragement and support to others within the group. Lana’s confidence has grown significantly, and she now engages more actively in lessons and group discussions.

While with us, Lana has successfully completed her Entry Level 3 AON Essential Skills Wales qualification and her Entry Level 3 Employability qualification. She is currently working towards achieving her Level 2 Communication Essential Skills Wales, demonstrating her motivation to continue progressing and challenging herself.
Lana has also started a placement at a local primary school, where she is developing practical skills, professionalism, and an understanding of working with children in a real-life setting. Alongside this, she will be completing her Level 1 Health and Social Care qualification, supporting her goal of pursuing a career within the education sector.

Lana’s journey so far highlights her resilience, determination, and ability to overcome barriers. She is a positive role model within the centre and continues to make excellent progress toward achieving her personal and career goals.
