Supporting Progression Through Structured Learning: Millie’s Story

Millie’s journey with Itec demonstrates how structured support, practical experience and personal commitment can help learners build confidence and prepare for their future careers.

Millie joined Itec through the Engagement programme, where she completed curriculum tasks with the support of her tutors at the Itec Aberdare centre. Alongside her learning, she took part in wellbeing trips and enrichment activities, built positive friendships with her peers and developed confidence in herself and her abilities. Reflecting on this stage of her journey, Millie shared that “my time at Itec didn’t just give me skills; it helped me find direction, purpose and a new sense of possibility,” highlighting the personal impact the programme had on her development.

As Millie progressed, she moved onto the Advancement strand, where Itec helped her secure a placement within a local early years provision. This opportunity enabled her to gain valuable hands-on experience and develop the practical knowledge and skills required to work within the early years sector.
Millie showed great drive and determination throughout her Level 1 in Health and Social Care (Early Years and Childcare). She was proactive in her learning, demonstrated strong commitment to attending her placement and regularly met with her assessor in centre every few weeks to complete learning tasks and assessments. Her consistent effort and positive attitude supported her successful completion of the qualification.

Millie has now completed her Level 1 qualification, placing her in a strong position to continue her learning journey and pursue future career opportunities within health, social care and early years. Her progress reflects the impact of dedication, support and meaningful learning experiences at Itec.
