LA Training – Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity

We’re really excited about a new opportunity with LA Training, who have taken on four of our learners to complete the Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity. The course is based at the Fitness Quarter in the Red Dragon Centre and runs over six sessions that cover both theory and practical work.
A great bonus is that all learners who take part get full complimentary membership at Fitness Quarter for the whole course, so they can get hands-on experience in a real gym environment while they learn.

What Learners Will Learn
• On this course, learners will:
• Get to know the basic structure and function of the human body and how it relates to fitness and exercise.
• Learn how to use a personal exercise programme with the key principles of fitness (frequency, intensity, time, type, and sticking to it!).
• Get an introduction to the role of a fitness instructor.
• Learn about the fitness industry and potential careers.
• Understand the basics of leading an exercise session safely.
• Explore the benefits of a balanced diet and how it helps support a healthy lifestyle.

Learner Experience
Dom, the instructor, has been amazing. He originally came into the Cardiff centre to talks openly about the course and the opportunities it opens. Since then, has taken on four of our learners and has really supported the four learners throughout their journey so far.
All four learners are aiming for careers as personal trainers or in the fitness industry, so this course is the perfect starting point. It gives them practical skills, confidence, and insight into the industry, everything they need to take their first steps into a career they’re passionate about.

Impact
This opportunity is more than just a course. It’s a way for learners to experience the gym environment, learn from an expert, and explore their future career. For these learners, it’s a real chance to get started in the fitness world and see where it could take them.
I’ve really been enjoying the Level 1 Fitness and Physical Activity course with Dom so far. It’s helped me build my confidence and understand the basics of fitness, health and how to support others safely during exercise. I’ve especially enjoyed learning about different training methods and how the body works, as it’s made everything more interesting and practical. ITEC has been really supportive throughout the course, providing clear guidance, helpful feedback and making sure we have the resources we need to succeed. Kimberly Sinuova 26/02/2026

Itec has really helped me get on the path I want to get on and I would 100% recommend it to people who feel as if they won’t do well in college or didn’t do well in school as I was also one of those people, it has helped me choose what I want to do with my future as I’ve had a variety of options and I’ve finally found something which I definitely want to continue on with in the future. It helped me build a lot of confidence and get rid of all the anxiety I used to have as I used to have social anxiety. The Wednesday trips are such a big benefit as I’ve never been to most of the places before that Itec has taken me. My first time going to London was with Itec and it was an amazing experience! Also Thorpe Park twice which was amazing and helped me make friends with the other students. I really have enjoyed all my time with Itec as they are willing to help with any problems you may be facing and I feel comfortable enough to talk to my tutors properly. I would recommend Itec!. It has been a pleasure delivering the Level 1 Award in Fitness and Physical Activity to the current Itec cohort. The course will support in building confidence, improving communication skills and gaining a clear understanding of progression routes within the sport and leisure sector. The group have so far been fully engaged, and I am looking forward to seeing their development over the programme. Dominic Ham 02/03 /2026
