Kai Wood

From Uncertain to Unstoppable: Kai’s Journey of Confidence and Growth at Itec Skills

After completing his GCSEs at Maesteg Comprehensive School, Kai joined Itec Skills Bridgend in 2024. At that point, he wasn’t sure what direction to take next and often found traditional classroom environments overwhelming, which affected his motivation and confidence.

With the support and encouragement of his tutor, Joseph Melhuish, and learner coach, Angela Price, Kai began to take part in confidence-building activities and regular one-to-one mentoring sessions. These sessions helped him open up about his goals and challenges, while also giving him the tools to manage his anxiety and focus on his personal growth.

Over time, Kai developed strong relationships within the centre, improving his communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. He began to approach learning with a more positive mindset, showing real determination to push himself further.

As his confidence grew, Kai decided to take the next step, a work placement at Firestorm Bridgend as a Retail Assistant. This opportunity allowed him to apply his new skills in a real-world setting, gaining valuable experience and independence.

Everyone at Itec Skills is incredibly proud of Kai’s journey so far. His progress shows how, with the right guidance and perseverance, learners can achieve their goals and build a bright future.
