A Journey of Growth and Resilience: Lana Meeke’s Path Through Skills Development

Connor Crawley Jones joined the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme on the Engagement strand with the Itec Pontypridd team. With the support and commitment of the team, Connor has flourished in his confidence and his accepted his diagnosis of autism (ALN).

During his time at Itec, Connor received consistent support from the Itec team in Pontypridd. Throughout his partnership with Itec, Connor has benefited from the structured routines and a nurturing learning environment through Itec’s Jobs Growth Wales Plus provision.

He’s increased his confidence with social interactions along with his abilities. Connor gradually began to build relationships with peers at the centre. Over time, he developed friendships and became more comfortable. This improved his engagement within the classroom setting. With the continued support he’s grown his ability to speak within group settings.

Connor has progressed onto a two-day-a-week work placement in a local retail shop. In this role, he interacts with customers, supports sales, and works as part of a team. The feedback that the Itec Pontypridd team has received is that his employer has provided a supportive and inclusive environment and has helped him to develop his communication skills and workplace confidence.

Today, Connor is a positive, confident young man with a strong peer network and clear aspirations for his future. His journey demonstrates the impact of tailored ALN support and meaningful employer engagement within the community can ensure a brighter future.
