From Quiet Learner to Confident Achiever: Yusuf’s Story

Yusuf joined the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme with Itec as a quiet and reserved learner who initially found it difficult to take part in group discussions with his peers. He often struggled to concentrate and found it challenging to stay focused for long periods. At the beginning of his learning journey he was unsure about his future direction and lacked confidence in his own abilities.

During his time at Itec, Yusuf made outstanding progress both academically and personally. As he settled into the learning environment, he gradually built his confidence and became more comfortable engaging in class activities. His ability to concentrate improved steadily and he was able to participate for longer stretches of time, which had a positive effect on his development and the progress he made in his lessons.

As Yusuf grew in confidence he became not only a dedicated learner but also a supportive and encouraging friend to those around him. He developed strong social and communication skills and embraced new opportunities with an open and motivated approach. His independence increased significantly and he showed a real determination to succeed.

One of Yusuf’s key achievements was earning a bronze award at WorldSkills UK, a milestone that highlighted his commitment and talent. He then progressed to a placement at Penarth Pavilion where he has been gaining valuable workplace experience. His responsibilities have included using the booking system, helping to organise events, and welcoming customers as they arrive. This role has enabled him to develop practical skills and grow in professionalism while building confidence in a real working environment.

Yusuf’s journey is one of impressive development and perseverance. The progress he has made reflects his dedication and positive attitude towards learning. He has grown into a capable, confident and motivated young person who is well prepared for the next steps in his future.
