Finding Her Spark: Summer’s Path into Hairdressing and Barbering

Summer joined the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme on the engagement strand. She will be completing her level 1 hairdressing and barbering. Before starting the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme, she wanted to pursue a career in either hairdressing or become a tattooist.

Summer started on the engagement strand and initially struggled with the classroom setting. With the support and dedication of her youth tutor, learner support co Ordinator. Summer pursed a placement at La Femme, where she blossomed and came out of her shell.

Summer really benefited from the wellbeing checks that Itec staff members undertook with her. This meant that she felt her career aspirations were taken seriously. Summer also felt supported by the staff members when it came to her transition from centre to placement.

During her placement, she began to feel happy as she was gaining hands on work experience and this was something she was not supported by in school.
