Riley Morris X Wynne Construction & Co
Constructing a Successful Career from Jobs Growth Wales+
Riley Morris, a learner at Itec’s Jobs Growth Wales+ (JGW+) Bridgend Centre, showed a keen interest in the construction industry but lacked the knowledge and hands-on experience necessary to succeed in the field. His journey into construction began with guidance and preparation from his dedicated Learner Coach, Angela Price, and his Youth Tutor, Joe Melhish, from the Itec team.
Preparation & Support: Recognising the need to equip Riley with both practical skills and industry knowledge, Angela and Joe worked closely with him to ensure he was ready for the next steps. As part of his preparation, Gareth Williams, the Employability Officer at the Bridgend Centre, reached out to Paula Lennon from Wynne Construction & Co. Paula graciously agreed to visit the centre as a guest speaker, providing valuable insights into the various roles within the construction industry. This session was pivotal in piquing Riley’s interest and further fueling his enthusiasm for a career in construction.
Taking the Next Steps: Excited by the opportunities within the industry, Riley wasted no time in stepping up to the challenge. Equipped with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and a strong sense of commitment, Riley showcased his teamwork and dedication during his time with Wynne Construction & Co. His proactive attitude and readiness to engage with the company impressed his mentors and colleagues alike.
Achieving Certification: To further his career prospects, Riley was supported by the Bridgend Centre in preparing for his Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card and Construction Industry Training Board (CITB) course. Through hard work and determination, Riley passed both qualifications with flying colours, marking a significant milestone in his journey toward a successful career in construction.
Current Status & Future Outlook: Riley continues to thrive in his placement with Wynne Construction & Co, demonstrating the skills and professionalism he developed during his time at the Bridgend Centre. With a clear path ahead, Riley is excited about his future in the construction industry and looks forward to the bright opportunities that lie ahead.
From the learner: Riley said, “I am going to do a dry lining course next. I enjoy working with the other teams. Thanks to JGW+ for finding the opportunity.”
Conclusion: This case study highlights the power of preparation, mentorship, and industry engagement in helping learners like Riley transition successfully into their chosen career paths. Thanks to the support from his tutors, employability officer, and guest speaker, Riley Morris is well on his way to building a rewarding future in the construction industry. With thanks to Wynne Construction & Co.
