Developing Confidence, Skills, and Career Direction: Muhammad’s Progression
When Muhammad first joined the Itec on the Advancement strand, he was quiet and shy. Over time, by talking to people at the centre and taking part in activities, he started to come out of his shell and gain confidence in social situations.
Muhammad started a placement with Maximus in late June, focusing on working towards his AAT qualification. He stayed until September, and during this time he wanted to develop more skills and experience, so he moved on to a new placement at The Hangar Gym.
At The Hangar Gym, Muhammad started his AAT course and took on practical workplace tasks, including: Working behind the reception desk and registering new members, helping customers with queries during registration, general cleaning duties, ensuring H&S standards, support with pantry stock, typing up invoices.
These tasks gave Muhammad hands-on experience in customer service, administration and general workplace duties.
During his placement Muhammad achieved: AAT Level 1 and Level 1 Introduction to Employability skills
These achievements show his commitment and ability to apply himself in a work environment.
Muhammad said, “After I dropped out of college, I wouldn’t be where I am without Itec and their members of staff. Nadine and Abby have been supportive while I was here, Jess has helped me a lot finding placements and work experience to further build myself and work towards my future career. Vanessa held weekly meetings to ensure my AAT course was going smoothly.”
Since completing his placements, Muhammad has developed a lot personally and professional securing employment. He has: Improved his communication skills in the workplace, increased confidence when speaking to new people, greater-self-belief in his abilities, developed multitasking skills and gained experience in sales and customer service and accountancy.
Muhammad has really enjoyed his experience and feels proud of how much he has grown.
