From Ambition to Opportunity: Layla’s Progress on the Jobs Growth Wales+ Programme

Layla’s Ambitions Before Starting JGW+

Layla joined the Jobs Growth Wales+ programme with a strong ambition to achieve. From her start date, she was determined to make the most of every opportunity available to her.

Although Layla has long-term aspirations of becoming a solicitor, she initially felt unsure about the exact pathway to achieve this goal. She was open-minded and willing to gain any type of work experience through the programme to build her confidence, develop her skills, meet employers, and experience a real working environment. Alongside this, Layla wanted to improve her Maths and English skills to help her throughout completing her qualifications with us.

Layla’s Journey on the JGW+ Programme

Layla began her journey on the Engagement Strand, where she focused on developing her employability skills and exploring different career options. She participated in group activities, and regular one-to-one meetings with staff to discuss different placement opportunities she would be interested in.

Over a few months, Layla showed commitment in developing her confidence and communication skills. Layla completed her Level 1 Award in Employability Skills Qualification while on the Engagement Strand and expressed how she now felt ready to begin a placement.

Layla then took on a placement at SB Law, supporting in a reception/administrative role. In this role, Layla is gaining first-hand experience of a professional environment, developing her communication and customer service skills and building confidence interacting with professionals. It’s helping gain valuable insight into workplace expectations.

Qualifications Achieved and In Progress

Alongside her placement, Layla continues to attend centre on Tuesday mornings to work towards her Essential Skills qualifications. She is currently completing her Entry Level 3 Communication qualification and is scheduled to begin her Entry Level 3 Application of Number qualification. Layla has shown strong dedication in balancing both her centre-based learning and her placement responsibilities.

JGW+ has played a key role in supporting her progression, and it is Layla’s dedication and commitment that truly highlight her potential for future success.

“I’m really proud of how much I’ve grown throughout the programme and everything I’ve achieved. It’s been an amazing journey, and I’m excited to keep using the skills I’ve developed as I move forward in my career and beyond the programme. Having consistent support along the way has made such a difference and really helped me thrive”
