Resilience in Action: Kim’s Journey at Itec

Kim joined Itec at the end of November 2025 and quickly became an important part of our class. From day one, she brought warmth, honesty and a real eagerness to learn. Her infectious laugh and friendly personality have had such a positive impact on the group. She is a loyal and supportive friend, and she naturally lifts the people around her with her optimism and determination.

Kim lives with ulcerative colitis, a chronic health condition that can cause severe cramping, extreme fatigue and other challenging symptoms. Despite this, her attendance has been excellent since starting the programme. She always communicates clearly when she has hospital appointments and makes every effort to stay on top of her work. Her resilience and commitment really stand out, especially given the challenges she manages behind the scenes.

One of Kim’s biggest strengths is her teamwork. Our class can sometimes be quiet, but she is always happy to step up and guide her group if needed. She encourages quieter learners to speak up and helps them feel more confident sharing their ideas. She has a natural ability to make people feel comfortable, and she never fails to bring humour into the room at just the right moment.

A huge achievement for Kim has been securing a placement at Hangar Gym on Penarth Road, which she will begin in the last week of February. This placement will allow her to complete her Level 1 qualification in Personal Training, which is a fantastic step towards her future goals. Because of her own health journey, she feels strongly about helping others improve their wellbeing. She has worked incredibly hard to complete everything required to make this opportunity happen.

I am so proud of the progress Kim has made, not just in her studies but in the positive energy and encouragement she brings to our class and the Cardiff Centre as a whole. She has been such a valued member of our class, and it won’t be the same without her. I wish her every success in the next stage of her journey.

“Itec has helped me make good progress by improving my practical skills and building my confidence in a professional environment. It has allowed me to meet new people and build my career towards my future goals.” – Kim
