From building confidence to breaking language barriers: Kafayat’s journey

Care Support Kafayat Busari has just completed her Level 2 Health & Social Care (Adults) apprenticeship at Mighty Health Care Ltd.

Kafayat’s ambition, as she embarked on her apprenticeship with Itec Skills, was to have good communication skills. As English is not her first language, Kafayat struggled at first with the Essential Skills Qualification.

Itec Assessor Richard Wambua provided Kafayat with positivity and helped her to upskill through one-to-one sessions until she was successful in her goal.

Richard commented, “As part of the apprenticeship, Kafayat needed to successfully complete L1 AON & COM (ESQs). I personally engaged with her in late 2025 to encouraged her and mitigate her anxiety. Although she failed the communication module a couple of times, this did not put her off and she eventually completed both ESQs successfully. We feel so proud of Kafayat development in terms of communication and confidence in work. Bendigedig Kafayat and I wish you all the best in your future endevours!”

Kafayat reflects on the apprenticeships commenting, “I now feel so confident communicating with my colleagues and even with the Individuals I cared for I have gained the required linguistic skills that enhance my performance in work and has helped develop my career. I can now provide a higher standard of care without any language barrier.”
